Zaporozhye city

 

Zaporozhye is a nice city. This city is very similar to Krivoy Rog, both industrial, the main industry is metallurgical. But in Zaporozhye, in contrast to Krivoy Rog, there is the Dnieper River historical heritage - the Cossacks, Zaporozhskaya Sich, islands.

Traveling around Zaporozhye should start with a sightseeing tour, usually by car or bus. You can see the main sights, and also drive by herself. A long street in Europe - Lenin Avenue, along the dam of the largest hydroelectric power station in Ukraine Dneproges.

This is one of the old power plants of the Dnieper. Khortytsya Island is the largest island on the Dnieper River, an extremely picturesque place: feather grass steppes, meadows, coniferous and oak forests decorate it. In 2007, the island was named the last of the Seven Wonders of Ukraine. It was here that the center of the Ukrainian Cossacks was Zaporizhzhya Sich.

Khortytsya Island

Excursion to the historical and cultural complex "Zaporizhzhya Sich" - the island of Khortytsya. The island of Khortytsya is the center of the Ukrainian Cossacks. Admire the picturesque landscapes of the banks of the Dnieper, get acquainted with the life and way of life of the Ukrainian Cossacks, find yourself a few centuries ago. Complex "Zaporizhzhya Sich" is an interesting place: here you can see the reconstruction of the ancient Cossack fortress, smoking, the house of the ataman, the wooden church.

At will (and depending on seasonality and schedule) you can:

  • see the performance of the Cossacks on Khortitsa. Bright costumes, national coloring, tricks on thoroughbred horses, skills of possession of a whip, Cossack fun and entertainment - all this can be seen in the performance of brave Cossacks!
  • To go on a boat along the Dnieper, during this you fully enjoy the beauty of the stunning scenery of the island of Khortitsa.

 

 

Also on the island of Khortytsya and near you can see:

  • «Tarasov stitch», the path was created in honor of Taras Shevchenko's visit to Fr. Khortytsy in 1843
  • Memorial and tourist complex «Zorova Mogila», which consists of 11 Scythian mounds. From the watchtower Cossack tower, installed on one of the barrows, you can see a panorama with a radius of 27 km!
  • Lapidarium – an exposition of ancient stone products (stone women, millstones, crosses).
  • Sovutina gully and the rock of Sovutin, which are named after the Cossack Sovutka. He lived here in a spacious dug-out and watched the herdsmen and shepherds, engaged in fishing and hunting. Archaeological studies have discovered on the rock a Scythian hill fort (V-III century BC). The Sovutinsky fortified settlement controlled the transportation from the left bank to the island. On Khortitsa also found seven settlements and several burial grounds of the Scythian period.
  • Mennonite cemetery, dozens of graves of the German people inhabiting Khortitsa in the old days. Tombs rise among modern tombstones in the center of the island, next to a stop called "Zaporozhskaya Sich". German-speaking settlers lived here from the end of the eighteenth to the beginning of the 20th century. On their tombstones are broken not only the names, names and dates of birth / death of the deceased, but also wise biblical quotations.

 

  • Visit to the Museum of Retro Cars
    A unique museum for retro cars was opened in Zaporozhye. The total area of ​​all the exhibition halls exceeds one thousand square meters and, according to the creators of the unique Zaporozhye sight, there are no analogues in Ukraine. The exhibition has more than 60 models of rare cars of the 20-60s of last century. In addition to cars that are available to all comers, many rare items are being reconstructed in the museum's workshops. All the equipment is truly legendary.
  • Restaurant "Cossack Compound"
